In case you have not heard NASA is looking for an astronaut to go up into space and push an astroid away from the earth.
While scientist are almost positive the asteroid is going to miss earth in 2029 they feel it will come close enough for us to see in our own backyard.
The size of this asteroid is large enough to completly destroy a small country.
I am not sure what to think about this. The methods discussed in resolving this issue are not very detailed. But I guess if these methods will work then we should go for it. I think it is important to consider the risks and benefits and decide whether it is worth it.
We have always been in danger from asteroids. Our atmosphere protects us from the smaller ones (shooting stars), but we could and have been hit by large space debris. This is the first time in history we could actually do something about the danger. We have the technology to detect the larger rocks. We have spacecraft that can travel to the asteroid and attempt a deflection. Remember the dinosaurs? The last big hit wiped out most of the life on Earth. Unfortunately Hollywood has this disaster right. We better learn how to move a rock out of our orbit.

I do hope they film that if they do it eventually. It sounds like something I should like to see.
